This pack is the second in Lincoln Goines’ seven part series Working With the Language of Rhythm: Afro-Cuban and Brazilian Groove Concepts for Bass. This pack offers you an in-depth look at the tumbao, a fundamentally important rhythm is Afro-Cuban and Brazilian music. In Practice Mode, the examples can be slowed down until they are at a comfortable speed and then, as you become familiar with these grooves, sped back up again to Lincoln’s tempo and beyond! Once you have mastered these examples, try using the play-along tracks to play a tumbao over other changes or songs you know.
Be sure to check out the rest of Lincoln’s series that takes you from the very basics of Afro-Cuban bass playing in Packs 1 and 2, all the way through advanced odd meter synthetic claves in Pack 7.
