6/8 and Subdivisions Over a Common Pulse

Explores the 6/8 clave and how to switch back and forth to 4/4 over a common pulse.

This pack is the fifth in Lincoln Goines’ seven part series Working With the Language of Rhythm: Afro-Cuban and Brazilian Groove Concepts for Bass. This pack teaches you how to play in 6/8 as well as how to switch back in forth from 6/8 to 4/4 over a common pulse. Additionally, the last lesson addresses the common question of how to switch from a 3:2 clave to a 2:3 clave. In Practice Mode, the examples can be slowed down until they are at a comfortable speed and then, as you become familiar with these grooves, sped back up again to Lincoln’s tempo and beyond! Also, be sure to turn off the bass and use the play-along tracks to improvise and write lines of your own.

Check out the rest of Lincoln’s series that takes you from the very basics of Afro-Cuban bass playing in Packs 1 and 2, all the way through advanced odd meter synthetic claves in Pack 7.
