Instead of actual beats, however, there are reading exercises in strange and unusual time signatures. The exercises include 52 etudes, some comprised of just rhythm, while others are embellished with rolls. The etudes in the first section are all in quarter time—in the second section they’re in eighth time. The material represents a glimpse into the future—no other book contains anything close to being similar. If you enjoy reading etudes with a bit of a challenge, this is the book for you.
