In this pack, Ivan Bodley introduces you to some of the most common harmonic variations of the blues. The pack covers two common turnarounds, or changes that come at the end of the form, in the flat 6 / 5 turnaround and the 2 / 5 turnaround. Also addressed are the “Quick 4,” Stormy Monday, and jazz blues changes. In the final lesson, Ivan gives you an example of a different blues feel by playing a funk blues.
All of the examples in this pack are in the key of G but the patterns and forms will work in any key. As you get comfortable with each example, turn off the bass in Practice Mode and see if you can play the pattern with the drums in a different key.
If you haven’t already, be sure to check out Ivan’s pack called Fundamentals of the Blues which gives you a solid grounding in the basic blues form and feel.
