Simon & Garfunkel Confirm Sole 2010 U.S. Gig at New Orleans Jazz Festival

Simon & Garfunkel have been added to the first weekend of this year’s New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, marking the lone U.S. performance the legendary duo will make in 2010. The pair will perform on Saturday, April 24th, the second day of the festival, which runs until May 2nd. Simon is a vet of the Big Easy’s Jazz Fest; he performed there with the Neville Brothers in the ’80s and played a memorable closing set at the first post-Katrina event.

“Over the years I’ve always enjoyed performing at Jazz Fest,” Paul Simon said in a statement. “Everyone connected with the Festival, and in particular Quint Davis [director of Jazz Fest], has created an atmosphere that is both musical and enjoyable. I am looking forward to the opportunity to perform with my old friend Art Garfunkel at this year’s Festival.”

Pearl Jam, the Allman Brothers Band, Jeff Beck, My Morning Jacket, Band of Horses, Drake, Aretha Franklin, Van Morrison, Black Crowes, the Dead Weather, Elvis Costello, Widespread Panic and more artists are also scheduled to perform during this year’s fest.

Since their Old Friends reunion tour in 2003, Simon & Garfunkel have only sporadically performed together in the U.S. When Simon performed the first concert at the newly renovated Beacon Theatre in February 2009, Garfunkel joined him for the encore. The duo reunited once again last October at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 25th Anniversary concerts at Madison Square Garden.
