Para Diddly, by Raymond Portante, was designed to give drummers the tools necessary in order to take the basic paradiddle, and some of its variations, utilize them, not just on the practice pad, but as part of the underlying “groove” on the drum kit that we are all ultimately searching for.
Throughout the book, the author has included recommended metronome markings. Dependent upon your level of playing you should start practicing the exercises at a tempo where you cannot only play them comfortably, but musically as well. The author’s suggestion is that once you get comfortable playing the different sections at a higher metronome marking, you can then search for a song at approximately the same tempo that you can play along to in order to appreciate the purpose behind “Para Diddly”.
