10 Comping Etudes for Jazz Drum Set Volume: One, by Eric Binder, features ten comping etudes which are “melodies” between the snare drum and bass drum. The etudes are meant to be played behind the standard ride beat, with hi-hat on two and four. Volume one features quarter notes and eighth notes exclusively. Over the course of ten etudes the ideas become more complex. These etudes are quite versatile, played slowly for those just learning to comp, or played up-tempo for those looking for a challenge.
