This is a book that sheds some light on the world of drumming from a Brazilian standpoint. Authors Daniel Gohn and Jayme Pladevall elaborate on the changes brought by modern technologies in the life of drum set players, pointing out positive and negative sides of social media and other contemporary digital tools. A previously unpublished interview with the late Freddie Gruber reinforces some of the ideas in discussion. Furthermore, drum set compositions are presented, with solos and pieces for duets and quartets. Those compositions are the result of the authors’ collaboration in PlaGohn, a duo that refuses to see the drum set as a mere accompanist to other instruments and that explores the full palette of its sound possibilities.
