Teacher Guide: Steve Smith’s Drum Legacy

Part of a series of guides designed to help teachers integrate and utilize DVDs and new books with their students, these teacher guides are carefully constructed to give tips on using the source material, as well as supplemental books that will help to make a more complete educational package. Available in printable PDF format.

Vinnie Colaiuta

A producer once told Vinnie Colaiuta that if you threw Tony Williams and Steve Gadd into a blender, Vinnie would be the tasteful concoction. He laughs modestly while he shrugs off the compliment, but it is probably an accurate description. Justifiably, he is the talk of the town and drummers pack into the L.A. club where he plays three nights a week. One drummer comments that Vinnie is the best drummer he’s ever seen and another puts it simply, repeatedly exclaiming, “Monster!”

Victor Wooten

Victor Wooten redefines the word musician. Regaled as the most influential bassist since Jaco Pastorius, Victor is known for his solo recordings and tours, and as a member of the Grammy-winning supergroup, Béla Fleck & The Flecktones. He is an innovator on the bass guitar, as well as a talented composer, arranger, producer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist.

Vera Figueiredo

To be a drummer is her passion and profession but not her only talent. Vera Figueiredo is a piano graduated composer as well as the Dean and the coordinator of the Instituto de Bateria Vera Figueiredo and an event producer. She dedicates herself to the diffusion of the Brazilian music and culture by bringing it country-wide and abroad through participating in shows, workshops and some of the most important national and international festivals

Tommy Igoe

Tommy Igoe has been at the forefront of drumset performance and education for the last 20 years. He started playing before the age of two and won every local and regional competition during his school years, during which he was also a member of the legendary Bayonne Bridgemen drum line where he played for 3 years.
